According to NAB’s Online Retail Index for September, online retail sales are continuing to grow, up 23% on last September. For September 2012 Australia’s online retail sales were $12.1 million, 5.5% of “bricks and mortar” retail sales (this figure excludes cafes, restaurants and takeaway food).

The rate of growth for online retail sales continues to outperform that of traditional bricks and mortar retail growth, whose growth for the month was up 4% on the previous September. Australian online retailers continue to innovate in order to develop or maintain a competitive advantage.

More and more companies are offering express delivery, in some cases same day and free delivery in order to compete with overseas retailers. All this is to the advantage of Australian consumers.
